If you've been reading these autograph posts from the beginning (I feel like I say that a lot), then you're familiar with how this works. This will be my fourth soccer post (out of five) and features a rather obscure minor leaguer.
My very first Autograph Appreciation post (at least, my first single-card, individually focused AA) was of one Nate Baker, with a card from his time with the Harrisburg City Islanders. Today, we will revisit that franchise.
Signed in ink pen, this 2007 Choice Harrisburg City Islanders card isn't the most glamorous autograph I've ever seen. I picked this card up in a fan pack from Harrisburg City back in 2008 or 2009. I was able to secure Schofield's signature on it with a TTM request not long after, and to be honest haven't followed his career at all since then. So, let's take a look, shall we?
Born on October 15, 1981, Schofield is an English native, hailing from Preston. Growing up, he was a part of the Blackburn Rovers in Blackburn, England, but when he didn't receive a senior contract from them, Schofield set his sights on the United States. Arriving in America in 2000, Schofield attended Long Island University in New York, where he was a three-time all-conference pick.
In 2004, Schofield signed with Harrisburg City, and stayed with the club through the 2011 season. Along the way, he was a second-team All-League selection in 2005, and retired with the all-time team lead in assists with 27.
Outside of playing for the Islanders, he represented Great Britain by playing for the squad in the 2005 World University Games in Turkey, and Schofield also racked up some indoor work, spending 2005 and 2006 with the Philadelphia KiXX and joining the Harrisburg Heat for their 2012 and 2013 seasons.
According to LinkedIn, David is now a Biology teacher in the Central Dauphin School District in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Whether or not he is involved with the CD soccer program isn't apparent to me (although it wouldn't surprise me).
The life of a minor league soccer player may not be too exciting, as Schofield's bio has shown. As I've mentioned before, I'm also not thrilled with the signature, due to the ink pen used. Regardless, I'm always happy with adding a signature to my collection, and Mr. Schofield is no exception.
We have one more soccer autograph to go through in this feature, before moving on to racing and then some more "mainstream" sports with more names you may recognize. Until next time, however, I thank you for reading, and have a great weekend!
